Would you like to visit the Calanques 35 kilometers from our establishment Le domaine de Manon?
A calanque is a geological formation partly submerged by the sea that can be found around the Mediterranean. The sea, exploiting the geological faults in the calcareous rock, has progressively carved the landscape, offering the magnificent panorama cuts and a characteristic ecosystem. Formed 120 million years ago, the Calanques massif extends over 20 km long between Les Goudes and Cassis. Many hikers venture out on the trails surrounded by winding hills. The creeks have the particularity of having formed the famous "pierre de cassis
", an Urgonian calcareous rock varying from beige to ochre, renowned throughout the world. It was used for the construction of major ports such as Alexandria
. Today this noble limestone has become a decorative object. The Massif of the Calanques also has the particularity of being a natural freshwater basin, its azure blue water is sublime.
